Thank you for your responses. Based on your responses the Inspiration 50, scheduled for tomorrow (October 6), is CANCELLED. If you are already en route, please let me know when you hit town and I will gladly buy you a beer while we talk about what could have been.
Please know, we did not come to this decision lightly. If the Inspiration 50 was a race or anything other than a casual tour ride, it would be happening. However, given the intent of the ride (scenic tour) and the weather forecast, plus many of your responses, proceeding does not appear to be a sensible choice.
Unfortunately, this is the only weekend this event worked for Scott and me, so it will not be rescheduled. I hope that all of you receive this before you depart for the event.
Thank you for your support and interest in all things Inspiration Gravel. We are already talking about next year and have some new things planned for your gravel grinding pursuits.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Derek & Scott

ReplyDeleteLiving only 10 miles away from the Peak I decided to be there at 9 in case someone showed. No one did. I decided to drive the 25 mile route to see some new roads and I come across my neighbor Rose. She was looking forward to the ride, but since it was cancelled decided to start at 8:30. The weather was cool, but nice and Rose said no problem. However the roads were washboards so I decided to go home, put my 2.35 Big Apples on an ride at 1. Called Jakes Bikes and told them to let others know if they come in the store and left voice messages with Deek and Scott If they were interested.
At 1 no one came, so I decided to ride the 25 alone. First thing I noticed was there were two bike tracks, so someone besides Rose also decided to ride. I followed these tracks the whole ride.
There were washboards the entire ride, so putting the BA's on was a good move. Because of the drought there was much soft gravel, that was similar to hitting a truck runnoff. Going downhill was iffy casuse of the soft gravel. My full suspension was nice though! Because of the soft gravel and the inability to find hardpack to ride on much of the time it went slower than expected.
The weather was cool but I was dressed for it and the wind was not a problem. The entire ride was beautiful. I'd do it again! You people missed a great day of riding!
Enjoy,
Perry
